Astraea Technologies

Validating Healthcare Where Failure Is Not an Option

Astraea Technologies is an Australian deep-technology company safeguarding human health and performance in extreme environments.

As human activity pushes deeper into extreme environments, the systems we depend on—pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and life-support technologies—are already being used beyond their validated design limits.

Most have never been properly tested under these conditions.

When it matters most, will they still work?

Astraea exists to answer that question with evidence.

The Problem

A growing validation gap

Across critical sectors, human life depends on healthcare systems and technology operating beyond validated conditions:

  • In space, ionising radiation degrades pharmaceuticals over time

  • In defence and disaster zones, medical supplies endure extreme stress without environmental validation. Limited resources push pharmaceutical shelf life to its limits, where technological failure can cost lives.

  • In nuclear medicine, products are exposed to radiation beyond standard testing regimes

Yet, no formal consideration has been given to developing healthcare systems and technologies to survive these extreme environments.

Failure is no longer an edge case, it is a system-level risk.

the solution

Replacing assumptions with evidence

Astraea builds validation-to-insight systems that quantify how extreme environmental stressors impact human-critical technologies.

We test, measure, and model how systems behave under real-world conditions, before deployment.

Our approach:

  • Test — Controlled exposure to mission-relevant stressors

  • Analyse — Degradation pathways and dose-response profiling

  • Optimise — Engineering and formulation improvements

  • Deploy — Systems validated for real-world performance

This enables earlier decision-making, reduced uncertainty, and higher confidence in deployment.

Astraea’s platform brings together two integrated capabilities that transform how healthcare systems are validated for extreme environments.

Astraea DRIFT
An analytical intelligence layer that transforms complex datasets into structured, decision-ready insight, revealing how systems degrade and when failure begins.

HIRO-LAB
A modular validation engine that generates high-fidelity exposure and degradation data under ionising radiation and extreme environmental conditions.

Together, they form a unified validation-to-insight system; bridging physical testing with predictive understanding, and turning environmental risk into measurable, actionable data.

Sector Solutions

One system. Multiple high-risk environments.

Astraea is building an integrated validation-to-intelligence platform, HIRO-LAB + Astraea DRIFT, for sectors where failure has greater consequences and performance is non-negotiable.

From space to healthcare, defence to disaster response, we generate the evidence that defines how critical systems behave under extreme conditions.

Space and Aerospace

Validating pharmaceuticals and life-support systems under cosmic radiation, isolation, and constrained resupply for long-duration missions.

Healthcare and Nuclear Medicine

Ensuring medical devices and pharmaceuticals perform reliably in radiological environments beyond conventional lab conditions.

Defence and Security

Human-support technologies built to perform in austere, high-risk environments where failure and field replacement are not options.

Disaster Response and Remote Operations

Pre-validating critical products for disaster zones and remote environments where resupply is impossible and worst-case conditions are reality.

Astraea origins

Inspired by Astraea, the ancient symbol of justice, integrity, and moral clarity, Astraea Technologies was founded on a simple but urgent belief:

As humanity moves into harsher, more unforgiving environments, the systems that protect human life must be held to a higher standard.

Modern pharmaceuticals and medical technologies are rigorously tested for terrestrial use, but rarely validated against the compounded stressors of extreme environments, both on Earth and beyond.

Astraea exists to close that gap.

founding team

Astraea was founded by engineers, scientists, and communicators focused on one question:

How do we ensure human-critical technologies remain reliable in environments where failure is not an option?

Together, the team combines technical depth, systems thinking, and communication capability, forming the foundation for Astraea’s work in building a new category of infrastructure for extreme environments.

First test payload launch in 2026

16 Dec 2025 - A major milestone for Astraea Technologies! We have signed an EOI to launch our first HIRO-LAB materials testing payload to a 400 km altitude (that’s the same altitude as the ISS!) with NSW-based launch partner Sunburnt Space in late 2026. With this mission now in motion, EOIs for degradation testing through HIRO-LAB are officially open. If your organisation is working on: • Astronaut healthcare for long duration missions • coatings or surface treatments • electronics or sensors • composites or advanced materials • CubeSat components or payload technologies …we’d love to hear from you. Submit an EOI to discuss your testing needs below. More information coming soon — but for now, we’re celebrating a huge achievement in Astraea’s first year.

One year and accelerating

11 Dec 2025 - This week marks our 1-year business anniversary! Co-founders Brooke and Gordi have a quick update on our journey and what’s next for Astraea Tech. Despite being a small team, we’ve achieved mighty things that confirm this is "something worth doing". Highlights include presenting our paper on the HIRO-LAB at IAC 2025, connecting with the global space ecosystem at the inaugural space hub at the Paris Air Show, and visiting institutions like ESA and ANSTO. We are driven by the goal of better healthcare for humanity. In 2026, we are putting our foot on the accelerator! We are set to start our earth-based testing, launch new tech concepts, and show customers that our products work. We are now taking Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from anyone who wants to fortify their products against radiation degradation. We are deeply grateful for the connections we’ve made in 2025, which fill us with hope and motivation.

HIRO-LAB

The Heavy Ionising Radiation Observation Laboratory (HIRO‑LAB) is Astraea’s inaugural analytical platform. Originally conceived to address one of space exploration’s most overlooked risks—the degradation of medicines under cosmic radiation—HIRO‑LAB has been deliberately designed as a modular, extensible system applicable across multiple industries.
